SAN FRANCISCO, October 20, 2026 — Osso VR, the leader in immersive healthcare training, today announced the Perinatal Care Library, a new virtual reality training library within Osso Nurse Training. The library focuses on early recognition and management of perinatal complications, including hypertensive crises and postpartum hemorrhage. Nurses practice end-to-end perinatal procedural workflows in a safe, standardized environment, and educators get objective performance data showing who is ready and where more practice is needed.
The Perinatal Care Library joins the Essentials Collection in Osso Nurse Training to rapidly scale nurse development and deliver meaningful real-time assessment.
“As a perinatal nurse, I've seen how quickly things can change for a mother and her baby,” said Martha Shaw Levine, PhD, RNC, Lead of Curriculum Design at Osso VR. “In those moments, patients are counting on us to recognize what's happening, know what to do, and respond with confidence. But that kind of readiness doesn't happen by chance. It takes practice, experience, and opportunities to learn in a safe environment. This library gives nurses more of that practice, so they can feel better prepared to provide the care every mother and baby deserves.”

The CDC reports that more than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths in the United States are preventable, and many depend on how quickly a care team recognizes a complication and acts. Developed with frontline nurse educators and simulation specialists, the library builds readiness through hands-on practice in skills such as Leopold maneuvers with visualized fetal anatomy, fundal massage and postpartum hemorrhage protocols, and postpartum hypertensive crisis management.
In large health systems, the library supports nurses moving into perinatal care through specialty residencies, those transitioning into practice in the specialty, or nurse staff that covers a wide range of floors. In rural and smaller hospitals where obstetric emergencies are less frequent, it keeps the whole nursing staff ready to recognize and stabilize patients until they can be transferred to a higher level of care.
To extend that readiness to more communities, Osso VR has partnered with America's Essential Hospitals, the national association representing more than 400 nonprofit and public hospitals, to bring the library to safety net hospitals that care for underserved and vulnerable communities.
“Our member hospitals need practical ways to keep their nursing teams ready for obstetric emergencies, especially when caring for mothers who face social and financial barriers to care,” said Ashley McMaster, Vice President of Membership and Development at America's Essential Hospitals. “Through our partnership with Osso VR, essential hospitals gain an accessible, measurable way to prepare nurses for the moments that matter most for mothers and babies.”
Perinatal care comes with specific training and documentation requirements. The Perinatal Care Library with Osso Loop™ makes tracking them simple. Aligned to national standards through Osso's Domains of Excellence™ and grounded in EBSCO Dynamic Health evidence-based nursing content, the platform assesses nurses without guidance, and leaders get the documentation they need. Osso Nurse Training also integrates with the HealthStream ecosystem to create a seamless learner experience, with easy access to content and visibility into completion data.
In low-frequency, high-urgency situations, minutes matter, and even doubly so in a perinatal emergency,” said Justin Barad, MD, Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Osso VR. “These urgent situations are rare, which makes it challenging for providers to get their reps in. We built these scenarios so nurses can practice as many times as they need with the objective data to give them the confidence to truly be ready for whatever the day (or night) brings!”
The Perinatal Care Library is built on the Osso Training Methodology, refined over a decade and validated in multiple peer-reviewed studies across procedural domains. Compared with traditional training methods alone, Osso VR training has been shown to deliver 67% fewer procedural errors, significantly higher knowledge retention, and a 20% reduction in training costs.*
The Osso Nurse Training Perinatal Care Library is available, directly or via LMS through Osso VR’s partnership with HealthStream. For more information or to request a consultation, visit https://www.ossovr.com.
